Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Indian Union Telecommunications Minister, said that India is the second largest telecom market in the world with 1.1 billion subscribers. Telecom discourse, which once focused on 2G, has moved to 5G and 6G, he said. During the valedictory session at the Telecom Investor’s Roundtable in Mumbai, Mr. Vaishnaw spoke on Investment Opportunities in 5G operations and Telecom Reforms.

With 1.1 billion subscribers, India is the second largest telecom market globallyAccording to Mr Vaishnaw, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given the ministry a clear goal to make Indian telecom regulation a global benchmark. This will ensure that people from all over the world will copy it. Aatmanirbhar’s 4G stack is part of the vision, he said. The industry has come out of its old phase and is entering a transformation phase, which facilitates a new influx of capital investment.

There is a very positive response from the industry to the 5G spectrum auction, he said. According to him, more players are coming onboard as 5G spectrum prices have decreased. A brand-new legal framework is being developed for the telecom sector by the government, according to Mr Vaishnaw. As early as August 2023, he hopes to have a more comprehensive legal framework in place.
